SMITHVILLE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM STARTS THE SEASON OUT WINNING

Both the girls and the boys cross country teams started out their 2008 season with 1^st place wins at the Maryville Invitational on Tuesday, September 2^nd.  The course is the same one used by the Northwest Missouri State University Cross Country program.  There were 11 schools represented at the meet.

Junior Payton Hartman led the girl’s team with her 1^st place finish time of 20 minutes, 5 seconds.  Junior Ben Barrows led the boy’s team with his 1^st place finish time of 17:37.   Both of these runners broke the course records that had previously been recorded for this location.

Congrats to Payton & Ben!!

Coach Klingensmith thought it was an exciting start to the season and looks forward to their upcoming races.
