Coach Eric Klingensmith

POSITION- Head Coach

BIOGRAPHY- Eric Klingensmith began his Cross Country coaching career in 2007 with Smithville.  He has been running distance for the past 11 years and loves every minute of it.  During his time in the Marine Corps, he led his platoon in physical training and remediation training for the 3 mile portion of the Physical Fitness Test.  He has also competed in many 5 and 10K races, finishing in the top quarter of his age group.  Coach Klingensmith also serves as an English teacher at the Smithville High School and has been teaching here since 2004.

 

  Coach Julia Bargman

POSITION- Assistant Coach

YEARS COACHING CC- 3

First year as assistant.  Has been in the Smithville School District for 14 years and has been the middle school track coach for 13 years.  Coach Bargman is a 1981 graduate of Smithville High School and a 1985 graduate of William Jewell College where she ran track and was a cheerleader at both schools.

Coach Bargman taught physical education at the middle school and is now the guidance counselor.  Coach Bargman lives in Smithville with her husband Scott, and sons Zach, a Senior at SHS and Troy, a 8th grader at the middle school. 

 

  Coach Alex Moore

POSITION- Assistant Coach

YEARS COACHING CC- 5

As a graduate of Smithville High School who’s experienced moderate success as a distance runner, Coach Moore has caught the ear of today’s athletes.  While being able to share from personal experiences, Moore also enjoys getting out and running with the team.  His passion to help students reach their potential and succeed in life is evident in his speech, attitude, and choices.  As the full-time youth pastor at New Life Community Church (www.newlifekc.com/www.impactyouthkc.com), his focus is on helping students develop character and become responsible individuals.

“I want to be a positive influence on this generation and coaching has opened a door for me to do that.  I’ve found favor with Smithville’s coaching staff, as well as their runners, and am excited about using my God given talents and abilities to impact young lives!”

In high school, Moore was a state qualifier in the 1600m, 3200m, and 5K events.  His senior year in cross country he received All-State honors with a sixth place finish.  Currently he holds the Men's Smithville cross country record.
